Small change: put one in the win column

Ask anyone who is over, say, five years into their career about their professional experience of change, and they’re likely to tell you a bruising story.

All too often, organisations put their people through the wringer only to end up back where they started. So, when the time for change comes round again, the organisation is conditioned to expect not only a bruising experience but also a pointless one.

“Where do I sign?”, right?

Change requires optimism that a different and better future is possible. For this reason, a clear priority in any change process should be to stick something tangible in the ‘win’ column. From there, you can build — in the growing confidence that worthwhile outcomes can be achieved.
