Small change: say what you see

When a company experiences a negative event, you can count on two things being true. The first is that there’s no such thing as ‘all of a sudden’ in business: the problem itself will rarely (if ever) have reared up out of nowhere. The second truth is that, at around the time it started to occur, someone in the organisation will have spotted it.

Perhaps that someone was you.

Perhaps you’re seeing problems right now that you’re avoiding mentioning for fear of the consequences.

If so, please know that problems don’t get better with age. A change made now will be far less painful — for you, for everyone — than one made when the situation escalates.

Something to consider: if I don’t say what I see today, what might I be sacrificing in the future?
