Small change: choose the right advisor

When circumstances dictate that some outside help is needed, how do you choose the right advisor?

Most businesses would claim to do so by appraising skills, industry experience and cultural fit. While this is a sensible place to start, it is worth digging deeper. This involves examining in detail not only the outcomes that your potential advisors have helped clients to achieve, but also the underlying beliefs, values and approach through which they arrived at them.

This is because consultants, like all human beings, tend to behave in line with established patterns. And some patterns will suit your organisation better than others. To paraphrase Socrates, when you’ve chosen your advisor, you’ve chosen your answer.
