Small change: consider the season

At the beginning of October, all over the world, business people turned their hopeful faces skywards, and raised a glass to toast that glorious annual event: the dawn of Q4.

And a smaller number of sane people wondered why we allow our work lives to be dictated by accounting periods, or for that matter the Gregorian calendar.

The earth works in seasons. Winter becomes spring becomes summer becomes autumn becomes winter again. And for centuries, human beings sought to live in harmony with these seasons — and prospered as a result.

We can learn a lot by considering the season — in a symbolic as well as physical sense. How prepared are we for winter? Can we remain hopeful for spring? How will we enjoy summer when it finally arrives?

Something to consider: how prepared are we for the fact that seasons come, seasons go?
