Small change: focus on learning fast

When planning change, it is tempting to think that immediate success is the only desirable outcome. This is understandable: most of us are incentivised at work to achieve it.

But a more sophisticated way of thinking is that success is an inevitable by-product of learning to do the right things. Businesses that embrace this philosophy focus their efforts not only on short-term wins, but also on building the fastest possible pace of learning across teams, departments and even geographies.

It’s not that such businesses don’t care about success. Far from it: they understand that the more they learn, the more competitive advantage they create.
