Small change: hunt the why

Nietszche said that throughout our lives we remain children, for the simple reason that we every day we are confronted with the unfamiliar. So it is at work, where the behaviour of others can often seem surprising, confusing — even mystifying.

But, while you might be surprised by what you witness, the one thing you can guarantee is that it makes total sense to the individual in question. As human beings we are slaves to our own internal reasoning: a reasoning that is shaped by genetics, neurology, past experiences, circumstances and a whole host of other factors.

You can deal with this like an adult by first getting curious. Seek to understand where the behaviour is coming from, and you are equipping yourself with information that will help you deal appropriately with it. After all, it is easier to solve a puzzle you can see.
